Academic staff self-rejuvenation through in-service-training

By Jimmy NSENGIMANA

The IPRC KITABI’s Academic Quality Assurance Unit organised a three day in service training that started from 11th to 13th February 2020 at RP-Kitabi College to refresh the academic staff.

One of the methods used for promoting and maintaining quality in higher learning institutions is training the academic staff and consideration of the area in which an improvement is required.

In this scholastic year 2019/2020 from 11th to 13th February 2020 at Kitabi, the academic quality assurance unity prepared an in service training of all academic staff and supporting staff involved in teaching and 27 attended. The aim was to ameliorate an effective training and learning thus refining the academic performance and updating the involved teaching staff on new TVET policies. This in-service-training of academic staff did focus on Competence Based Training (CBT), Competence Based Assessment (CBA) plan, Competence Based Training(CBT) session facilitation, Competence Based Assessment, integration of ICT in education and measurements and evaluations.

This training was superintended by the Director of academic staff, Mr. NIYONZIMA Laurent who gave thanks to the participants for sacrificing their time and being eager to knowing what is currently needed in TVET policies.

The in-service-training was conducted after different surveys that were done by IPRC KITABI’s Academic Quality Assurance Unit like academic staff evaluation by students, the preparation for teaching, the examination moderation, methods and principles of teaching. It has been observed that the current Lecturers need a refreshment for being updated on the TVET policy which will facilitate them to improve the college academic performance.

With this in-service training, various outcomes were achieved like how each trainer is able to make a competency based planning, apply based assessment procedure as required by TVET to apply the relevant methods and principle required for promoting effective training and learning, to integrate Information Communication and Technology in the training and learning process especially by using Learning Management System (LMS) and to Prepare standardised examinations and CATs through the application of moderation procedure.
